Довольно сложно одним словом определить, к какому направлению относится музыка Роберта Рича - это и ambient, и пространственная (space) музыка, и World, и New Age. Она наиболее близка по звучанию музыке таких мастеров, как Ал Громер Хан (Al Gromer Khan), Стив Роуч (Steve Roach), и, пожалуй, Дэвид Парсонс (David Parsons). Если Вам нравится то, что делают эти музыканты, то музыка Рича - это, несомненно, ваша стихия. Хотя музыка Роберта Рича не так величественна и медитативна, как музыка Дэвида Парсонса, однако вины композитора в этом нет - просто он рисует музыкальные пейзажи несколько иных ландшафтов. Музыка Роберта чуть более земная, его палитра состоит из чувств и эмоций в большей мере, чем музыка мистических откровений Парсонса.

Альбом полностью посвящен суфизму - мистическому Пути неортодоксального ислама. Суфизм стал тайным учением мусульманских мистиков, рожденным от слияния ислама с эзотерическими философскими доктринами Ирана и Индии, частично завоеванных арабами. И состоит из семи историй, каждая из семи подобно вуали скрывает тайну, которую предстоит разгадать слушателю:

1."Coils"

2."Alhambra" (Альгамбра - название расположенной на самом юге Испании мавританской крепости и дворца мусульманских правителей Гранады - последнего владения арабских халифов в Испании)

3. "Talisman of Touch"

4. "Book of Ecstasy" (Книга Экстаза) . Она состоит из трех частей, которые называются "A Silken Thread" (Шелковая Нить), "The Hungry Moon" (Голодная Луна) и "Veiled Oasis" (Оазис Тайны). Мистические созвучия высокого, плывущего в небе вокала, растворяющегося в дрожащем от зноя воздухе, подчеркивают изысканную каллиграфию, создаваемую синкопирующими ударными и поющими струнами гитары… Низкий, вибрирующий голос виолончели перекликается с дуэтом флейты и скрипки, завершающих эту фантасмагорию звука…

5. "Ibn Sina" (Ибн Сина) посвящена великому мистику, государственному деятелю, философу и врачу, жившему в десятом веке в среднеазиатских государствах Хорезма и Мавераннахра. Он носил титул "Царя Врачей" и "аш-Шайх ар-Раис" - "Главы Мудрецов".

7. "Lapis" - последняя композиция альбома. Приподнята последняя, седьмая вуаль. Вы остаетесь наедине со своим Я, которое, однако, не более, чем иллюзия, квинтэссенция представлений Вашего ума… И только полностью сбросив все семь вуалей, Вы сможете увидеть в незамутненном зеркале разума чистый образ божественного и безгрешного Существа, которое ВЫ.

Для достижения экстаза суфии используют различные средства, в том числе музыку и танцы - особенно так называемое "суфийское вращение" или "кружение дервишей". Для этого упражнения суфии разработали особую, специфическую ритмическую структуру, и именно таким ритмом и открывает Рич свой альбом "Seven Veils". Вообще этот альбом имеет довольно сложную и жесткую ритмику - четкий и ясный звук ближневосточных бубнов и барабанов ярко выделяется на фоне сопровождающей его музыки. Легкая, она вызывает в голове образы и картинки, но не мешает думать, а как бы течет параллельно мыслям иногда вплетаясь в них, а потом снова уплывая. Утро, раннее-раннее. Слышно как капельки ночной росы падают с травинок, и они, выпрямляясь, тихо шелестят. Музыка полная внутреннего света и оптимизма.

Норвежский New Age. Утонченная, тихая музыка.. Автор - классический музыкант, пианист. Его стиль отличается от традиционного нью-эйдж. Многие музыкальные критики относят его музыку к новому стили - Visual Music. Это музыка воображения и фантазий. Такую музыку можно слушать только в одиночестве. Перед глазами сразу же возникают своеобразные пейзажи и невероятные образы..

Могу слушать эту музыку бесконечно. Она в принципе не может надоесть. Так же было с музыкой Karunesh'а. С одной стороны - легкая, чрезвычайно мелодичная, она затягивает, просто растворяет тебя...
